Once you’ll taste it , you’ll love it. Cebu is known not just for its famous attractions but also for its delicious delicacies and foods. Their is more to its than just what you know. These foods or delicacies are worth checking out on your trip to the Queen City of the South, Cebu City. It is very normal to the Filipinos who bring pasalubong or souvenirs when they travel.
Here in Cebu , we have a unique different kind of delicacies that can be enjoyed by locals and foreigners as well. To name a few famous delicacies in Cebu that everyone loves to taste is HOPIA , CHICHARON , PINTUS , BUD-BOD , BINGKA , PUTO , KUTCHINTA , SUMAN OTAP , MASI AND DRIED MANGOES. First is Hopia which is one of the favorite delicacies of every filipinos because of its delight taste. Its a bean filled moon-cake. It has a different Flavors like mango , monggo , ube and chocolate. The usual price is 5 pesos each.

Second is Chicharon which is famous for its crack on every bite. Chicharon came from different flavor , it could be chicken , beef , fish , or pork skin which is my favorite one. Usual price is 20 to 250 pesos per pack.

Pintus is made of ground corn , cheese and coconut strips and wrapped with corn husk. Usual price is 10 pesos each.

Budbod is wrapped with banana leaf. This is best is best serve with hot coffee during snacks or breakfast. Usual price is 10 – 25 pesos for 3 pcs.

Bingka is a traditional delicacy. It is made of milled glutinious rice , coconut milk , margarine and sugar then steamed on hot pot using banana leaf. It is made of cassava. Usual price is 7 – 15 pesos each.

Puto can be made into two types. The Puto which made of flour and made of sticky rice or pilit in bisaya and sometime filled with cheese at the top of it to add taste. Usual Price is 5 – 15 pesos each.

Kutchinta is my favorite one because of its mild sweet glutinous texture which is made of flour, topioca flour , atsuete powder , dark brown sugar and grated coconut for toppings. Usual Price is 3 – 5 pesos each .

Suman is made up of grated cassava , coconut milk and sugar. It is also wrapped with banana leaves like bud-bod. Usual Price is 8 – 10 pesos each.

Otap is very fragile as easy to break with you bite it. It is oval shaped puff. Usual Price is 30 – 50 pesos per pack.

Masi is one my favorite. It has a cute size and it is made of glutinous rice with sweet peanut on inside. Usual Price is 5 – 10 each.

Dried Mangoes are ripe mangoes that mere dried under the sun. It has a chewy texture and a sweet taste make it so much addictive. Usual Price is 70 – 150 each per pack.

We only name few but theirs more to it that surely make you crave once you’ll taste. The question is where to buy them all ? Everything mentioned above can easily find everywhere in Cebu. They can also be found at the department or supermarket , outside the church , terminal store or bus stop and even along the highway where bus or your car passes by.
Every delicacy has its own history on why it exist and why most Filipino loves it. The names maybe find strange for others but only names are strange not the taste. Other countries have expensive foods to buy that is delicious as well with expensive ingredients but here in the Philippines particularly Cebu, its affordable and delicious specially when it served by hospitable filipinos.
